40th Annual Black and Gold Scholarship Ball




The Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington (JGH) Educational & Charitable Foundation of Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., respectively requests your support and attendance at our 40th Annual Black and Gold Scholarship Ball on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, Virginia from 7 pm until 12 am. Your partnership is critical to us reaching our 2020 goal to raise $30,000 for scholarships to support youth preparing to pursue their higher education.


We are asking you to join with us as a sponsor or by purchasing an ad in our souvenir journal to help us award more scholarships to deserving student leaders in Northern Virginia. Our outstanding 2020 winners will be selected from a pool of highly qualified applicants. Many of the students who apply for our scholarships have compelling stories of triumph over struggle to excel. With your help, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of many students.


Your company’s investment, along with those from other donors, and the members of our organization will help ensure the foundation continues to provide programs that benefit the community and scholarships to extraordinary college bound students.

The JGH Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is committed to serving a wide range of needs in our community through the following activities:


  • Provide 10 scholarships per year for college-bound high school students

  • Provide over 1,000 awards for academic achievement to middle and high school students in partnership with the Chantilly Pyramid Minority Student Achievement Committee and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity

  • Sponsor of “Project Alpha” program designed to provide teenage males information about teen pregnancy prevention

  • Support families in Reston, Virginia by providing nutritious meals annually during the Thanksgiving holiday and the Ronald McDonald house

  • Provided Christmas toys to hundreds of underprivileged children in the Reston, Virginia area through our annual Toys-4-Kids Christmas program


The Black and Gold Scholarship Ball enjoys support from approximately 450 guests and numerous corporate sponsors. Your company will be highlighted as a supporter of college-bound students in the Washington DC Metropolitan area who have a record of academic accomplishment, leadership, community service, and perseverance.
